If you're not a Morrissey or a Smiths fan, you're not going to understand a lot about that one.. I made that drawing in april 2006 for a Moz (Morrissey) discussion forum to celebrate the release of the new Morrissey album Ringleader of the Tormentors. You can find in that drawing several references to the universe of the mancunian artist :
- The first name in the title of the picture "Steven Patrick" is in fact Morrissey's first name.
- The Salford Lads Club : that place became THE place to visit in Manchester if you are a Smiths' fan. That club appeared for the first time in the inner sleeve of the 1986 album The Queen is Dead and in a photo session for The Face magazine the same year.
- The flowers tattooed on the girls stomach : gladiolus. The latter became in a way the unofficial symbol of the band during the early years of the Smiths' career. Morrissey used to appear on stage with big bunch of gladiolus stuck in his trousers back pocket.
- The Morrissey tattoo : being a Moz fan for almost 16 years now, I can tell you that I'm always surprised by the number of fans with a "Mozza" tattoo on their arm, particularly in the UK and Japan. One of the most famous photo related to that "Moz tattoo craze" appeared in the art book Peepholism in the mid nineties.
