The Holograms : Jem

Do you remember Jem and the Holograms, that cartoon about two rival rock bands, The Holograms and The Misfits who would do anything to be on the top of the chats?

If you don't it only means one thing : you must be less than twenty years old today...Jem was one of the most successful cartoons aimed at girls in the mid eighties and rapidly became a classic for a whole generation mostly because of the songs (3 songs of 2 minutes each in every episode) and the characters' clothes and hairstyles. For sure, the girls had style! The only weak point about the show was political correctness...No episodes without : "you must respect your friends", "you must be nice with your parents", "you must not smoke" blah, blah, blah...

Whatever...That cartoon had such a great impact on me that I decided to start in december 2005 a series of 1s (that still continues today) devoted to Jem. The first character I chose was_of course_Jem. I did not respect exactly what the character looked like in the TV series for two main reasons :

• That's a 1, I wanted to give my own vision of Jem in a more realistic way and not only a copy of the character as it appeared in the show.
• The eighties...Do you really think that a girl can be sexy today with the same haircut as Bonny Tyler in the Total eclipse of the heart video ?
